Song to Bobby

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Check out Cat Power’s new album Jukebox which includes both a wonderful cover version of “I Believe In You” as well as a song dedicated to Bob in the manner of his 1962 “Song to Woody”, “Song to Bobby”. In the lyrics of her very personal song she reveals her love to Dylan, “Givin’ you my heart was my plan”.

I found this live performance from French Canal+ TV channel on YouTube:

Bob puts the pedal down

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Bob’s Theme Time Radio Hour is the connection between him and the new Cadillac ad. Following appearances for Victoria’s Secret and Apple, he now can be seen in a new video clip for the Cadillac Escalade. XM satellite radio is a standard feature in the luxury SUV.

There are three versions of the ad on YouTube, a short one (30 secs.), a longer one (1 min.), and an alternate 2 minutes long version (included above) in which Dylan says, “You know what’s even better than a great road tune? Not having some DJ talking all over it. Unless, of course, that DJ’s me.”

The print and online campaign started in November.

First TV interview in 20 years

Monday, December 6th, 2004

Bob Dylan appeared on TV in the news magazine “60 Minutes”. CBS correspondent Ed Bradley spoke with Dylan in his first television interview in 2 decades.
In the broadcast Dylan talked about his career as well as his life, including the difficult relationships with both his family and the media.
The interview promotes the release of his autobiography “Chronicles, Vol. 1″ and was aired on CBS on December 5.

Dylan appears in lingerie commercial

“It’s unbelievable, it’s strange but true” would be the general undertone to the latest series of TV commercials for Victoria’s Secret, where Bob Dylan can be seen intercut with shots of model Adriana Lima.
The longest aired version of the clip is 60 seconds and it was shot on location in Venice, Italy. The song “Love Sick” from Dylan’s Grammy-winning 1997 album “Time Out of Mind” was used as background music.

Critical comments by the media on Dylan’s “sell-out” range from “What a sad and tawdry spectacle Dylan makes as sex gear huckster” to “Don’t worry. The 62-year-old Dylan keeps his clothes on”.
But according to a CNN report, one Dylan fan put it this way in a discussion group posting: “What would you rather have Bob Dylan selling, ladies’ underwear or cat food?”

I have nothing more to add. If a sell-out looks like this, then do it!
