This years a total of 58 candidatures from 24 countries ran for the award. It was presented by Andrés Amorós, literary critic and member of the Jury for the 2007 Prince of Asturias Award for Letters.

The Prince of Asturias Awards date back to 1981. They are endowed with EUR 50,000, a commissioned sculpture donated by Joan Miró, a diploma and an insignia. The eight awards of different categories will be presented in autumn in Oviedo at a ceremony chaired by H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias.
