When Dylan performed with his electric backing band for the first time, the fanbase was not ready either, or when he wrote his religious songs. You don't have to convince the Dylan audience anyway, it's more about attracting young people who are not into Dylan at all, and maybe being able to make them listen to the originals and discovering more.
