1983 1985
  • Contributes to "We Are The World", a benefit project against hunger in Africa, initiated by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson.
1986
  • Performs at "Live Aid", a benefit concert organized by Bob Geldof. Also performs at "Farm Aid", a benefit concert for American farmers.
  • Contributes to "Little" Steven Van Zandt's "Artists against apartheid"
  • True Confessions Tour with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and release of the concert video "Hard to handle"
1987
  • U.S. Tour with the Grateful Dead
1988
  • Introduction to the R&R Hall of Fame by Bruce Springsteen
  • Beginning of "The Neverending Tour"
  • Joins all-star-band "Traveling Wilburys" with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison
