whalespoon This song helped get me through some very tough times, saying what I wanted to say but couldn't. Thanks Bob! May 19, 2011
Bill Cohen This is a very sad and disturbing song for me. This is Dylan trying to distance himself from the loss of his beloved wife Sara. If you see her say hello - she could be anywhere - I don't know. He is trying to turn off the memories of the only true love that he has ever known, other than his parents and his brother. As he makes his rounds he hears about her and does all he can to turn off the feelings. He finally admits that he respected her for doing what she did and getting free from him. He walked through a period of bizarre behavior where she could no longer live with the humiliation and shame he caused her, his children and himself. He would ride his horse through his house, cheat on her, and was so out of control that she did not have much of a choice. This was a young man who was living a dream and a nightmare of success at the same time. He was fuelled by drugs and alcohol and really had no way to stop himself from this self destructive behavior. He was encouraged by his wild friends and the whole chaotic music scene of the day. By the time he realized what he had done, it was too late to turn back, and he lost her. Really a sad song about a wild time of life for him. Dylan is skillful at turning off feelings, Most of The Time. Aug 27, 2006
